Highlands and The Amazon JULY 30TH TO AUGUST 13TH
Our itinerary
We will spend our first night near Quito Airport to relax and get used to the altitude in a nice hostel.
Our first day after a great breakfast will start heading north of Ecuador, to our cultural encounter with Otavalo, Andean indigenous town, where we will stay to visit Zuleta community. You will enjoy the handmade embroidered items, best in their kind. We anticipate visiting a historic cooperative, a condor refuge/rescue sanctuary.
We will continue to enjoy other surroundings in the area. Lakes and unique towns where you can enjoy nature, handmade wood crafts, and more.
Our second area in the trip is the famous Mitad del Mundo (middle of the word) where you will witness the amazing physics effect of it. After our days of adventure, we will return to Quito, UNESCO cultural World Heritage site. It is among the largest and best-preserved historic sites in the Americas.
We will experience traditional foods, musical presentations and other cultural events held during this period of the year. We anticipate attending the famous cultural folkloric ballet!
During the last few days of our tour, we’ll go east to Baños, the gateway city to the highland Amazon basin, the Ecuadorian eastern region. Activity options may include nature trails in the jungle area, some with dramatic waterfalls, a canoe trip, and a visit to the Tree House Park, one peak over from a snow-capped volcano.
We will continue our trip to The Amazon region to visit Puyo to enjoy not only nature but a cultural encounter with different communities. We will heading to Misahualli, one of the river ports at the Ecuadorian amazon. If we are lucky enough we will watch some amazing birds and pink river dolphins.
We’ll return on a highway starting at 1,600 feet and climbing to over 12,000 feet to Papallacta to relax in hot water springs.
On the last day of your visit, you will enjoy some music, traditional family meal, and some surprises to take home with you to remember your time with us in Ecuador.
EXTRA: Pre or post tour options to GALAPAGOS are personalized based on your preferences. We recommend to plan at least 5 days at the islands to enjoy them.
